My husband and I live in Sydney, Australia – however he is originally from North Wales. Our dream was to have a wedding in both countries, celebrating both sides of our family and our heritages. Being so far from the UK, I did a simple Google search of wedding venues in North Wales and stumbled upon Iscoyd Park. After exploring the website and reading a few reviews, we were sold! It was actually the only wedding venue we enquired with in the UK, that’s how confident we were! After our early interactions with Kate and the staff at Iscoyd Park, it completely sealed the deal for us and we were not long after on a plane to the UK to do a site visit, wedding tasting and locking our wedding in.
To be honest the entire day was our favourite! Unfortunately, my husband’s mother was terminally ill at the time of our wedding, and passed only a few weeks later. For us both, plus our entire family, having her part of our day was the best gift anyone could have given us. We are so beyond grateful to Kate and all the staff at Iscoyd Park who helped us get her there and ensured she was comfortable and enjoying her day.
Having two weddings, I wanted to ensure they were both completely different! Our theme was more on the contemporary side, with a hint of rustic features. I worked with Katie from Unique Your Wedding to create our overall look. We choose all white florals, with hints of greenery, coupled with gold accents – in the cutlery and candle holders. We choose to have no linen on the tables to embrace the rustic feel of the coach house. Our cake was all white, decorated with the florals from our ceremony.
My dress was by Rachel Gilbert, an Australian dress designer, my shoes were international designer Amina Muadi and paired with classic diamond jewellery. My bridesmaids wore dresses from Six Stories a local UK dress company and both shoes and earrings from an Australian designer. My husband and his groomsman wore suits from Jepsons at Nantwich.
Still to this day I can’t get enough of our flowers! We kept to the theme of white florals with greenery throughout for the entire wedding. For the ceremony we had two freestanding plinths with white florals, paired with greenery centred behind us. My bouquet, bridesmaids bouquets and corsages were all baby’s breath, and my husband and groomsman had baby’s breath with a rose for the boutonnieres.
Our guests threw rose petals in small cones labelled ‘to have and to throw’ as we walked down the aisle. For the reception we decided to keep the arrangements minimalistic, with only one or two flowers in each vase, however we had vases paired with candles across the entire table. We reused our ceremony flowers to decorate the cake table.
For photos we used Kamila Nowak Photography and for our video we used Soda Films, who are an Australian based company that flew over to the UK to film our special day! We were lucky enough to have them at both our Sydney and UK wedding, which was really important to me, to ensure we had the same coverage and same theme for both weddings.
Being in Sydney, it’s super hard to find good suppliers in your own country let alone overseas! Through social media and Google reviews we found Kamila, and she was the most wonderful additional to our day. We had a Skype call with her in the lead up to our wedding, and had total trust in her to capture our special day.
Our wedding was very intimate with only 31 guests, so we choose not to have any live entertainment for the evening. My husband and I created a playlist with all our favourite songs, which we played in the background all evening. The Coach House has it’s own very special ambiance, so we felt it didn’t really need anything more than that! Being an intimate wedding, we didn’t have a lot of shenanigans, which for us was perfect. All our favourite people, paired with amazing quality food and drink was perfect for us. My husband and I did have one very special dance to Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’, with his Mum, which is something we will cherish forever.
It goes really quick! Make sure you take time for just you and your husband, whether you have a sneaky drink together or go for a walk to take it all on – remember it’s your special day so you need to enjoy it together as much as you can! And lastly, after having two weddings, take as many photos as you can! We got disposable cameras and left them on the table for our guests to use plus our bridal party captured moments throughout the whole day and this was the best thing we did!
