From Bean to Book – An Evening with Joanne Harris

Thursday 2nd April

We are delighted that highly acclaimed author Joanne Harris (MBE) will be talking at our Supper Club on 2nd April. Joanne was born in Barnsley in 1964 to a French mother and English father. After studying Modern and Mediaeval Languages at Cambridge Joanne became a teacher during which time she published three novels including Chocolat (1999) which was made into an Oscar-nominated film starring (amongst others ) Juliette Binoche, Johnny Depp and Judi Dench. Since then Joanne has written a further 15 novels, two novellas , two collections of short stories and three cookery books. Her passion for France, cookery and chocolate are of central importance to much of her work. She explores the interactions of small communities and their characters; making the extraordinary out of the ordinary. Her novels are mysterious and magical, a beautiful, rich balance of enchantment and realism. Joanne will explore these themes in her talk and focus on her own passion for chocolate and the inspiration she draws from it, with particular reference to her four novels in the Chocolat series, the last of which, “The Strawberry Thief” was published a few months ago. A hardback signed copy of The Strawberry Thief” will be included in the ticket price.

Our chefs have been inspired by Joanne’s love of chocolate and used this and some of her own recipes to create a really exciting menu to compliment Joanne’s talk. We will meet in the Drawingroom for drinks and canapes at 7.00pm on April 2nd.

Tickets £60 to include a signed hardback copy of “The Strawberry Thief”, welcome drink and canapes, a wonderful talk by Joanne Harris and two course dinner.
